Research into adverts- Task 15

What i've learnt from this
I've seen some conventional and unconventional magazine adverts which ahs given me some inspiration for when I start making mine.
I've learnt some things that I will have to include in my magazione advert such as the text used is all pretty simiaalr and is always center and bold and is usually either white or a colour from the advert colour scheme.
Some other things to take into account will be whetheri decide to go from a simple layout of everything centered down the middle or go for a more artisitc approach suchas A Day To Remembers advert

Research into digipaks- Task 14

I looked at a range of digipaks and chose some more unconventional digipaks to show how varied the digipaks of this genre are but picked out the main conventions which I will base my digipak off of.
What I've learnt:
From looking at different digipaks I have grasped a thorough understanding of the different conventions there are in this genre and how different digipaks can be from others in the same genre.
I started thinking of ideas for my digipak and how I could make it conventional in some senses such as having big, bold text and unconventional in other areas such as having photos on the main covers.
I also learnt that a lot of digipaks have a specific color scheme containing usually around three color which is something i'll have to remember when doing my digipak as to keep to convention as much as possible.

Tracking an artist/band- Task 13

Tracking Avril Lavigne across her career there is a clear change in her musical style from more punk music to more pop-punk and more alternative rock not only that but her own personal style has changed and she moved away from a punk look she had to begin with to a more feminine rocker look.
What I've Learnt:
Through doing this i have not only learnt how specifically Avril Lavigne has changed over her albums and through the years but also gave me an insight on how artists change over time to incorporate new ideas or new genre's to try achieve and try to appease a bigger audience.
I have also seen a variety of styles that Avril has done which gives some inspiration for the costume aspect of my music video, which always helps.
I've also seen a variety of her videos which gives me several ideas for themes and settings, such as a heart break theme which was what I was aiming for anyway and has given me several ideas of how I may go about doing a music video around that theme.

Music Channels- Task 12

What I have Learnt;
I have learnt how the music video industry has changed over the years but all concepts of modern music videos are based off the popularity of the first MTV channel and tjhat without that music videos would be no where near as poplualr as they are today.
I have also leant how each genre is linked to one or two specific channels so to keep in mind the target audience and to keep them entertained easier.
When I do my music video it may be good to look at some videos that feature quite oftne on the Kerrang! chanel as that's the channel that hold the Alternative Rock genre and to look at what the audience enjoy.

Audience Research- Task 11

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.

I created a generic survey just to get an idea for the sort of people could reach and what sort of shots they like just so I could get something useful from the survey, I then deleted several questions such as what's your age and gender once I got an idea of my target audience and who I was reaching and focused then on understanding what they like from music videos.

I looked at the audiences responses I got from the first survey to come up with an example target audience there were two main targets, as i'm still undecided whether my target audience is going to male or female I did a voki for both and will take time to decide before I get to into the planning stage but currently i'm undecided who exactly it will be.

I then went and created a mood board showing the alternative rock genre and what the target audience may be like and what they like and listen to based off the survey responses and first hand information obtained by knowing a lot of alternative people and what they are into and what they listen to.

In general I learnt a lot about who my target audience will be and in the end whether I choose to go for a male or female audience won't effort the construction but will effect the response I get in the end. As both genders in this genre like similar things in music videos and are quite similar.

Analysis of previous students works- Task 10

1)www.fahminaali.blogspot.com
2)www.i.m.c/kayjianoran/kayjianoran
3)http://laraanisere.wix.com/media-a2-coursework-

What I've learnt from looking at other students work.
-I've learnt how important the research and planning side of things are and that the better mark you get in that section the easier it will make the construction.
-I saw a really good story board and animation on one of the other students work which was brilliant and I want to take inspiration from that when I do mine.
-It  gave me an idea of the level my work will have to be to get a good grade and how much effort and work I have to put in.
-I quite liked how easy some of the navigation was on the blogs and websites and how it makes a difference for someone marking it.
-I quite liked the range of technology and presentation methods some of the other students used but I also saw how boring it gets if you repeat the same method over and over again and how much of a difference it makes to the marking if there is a range of technology used.

Jordan and Billy

What Went Well:
There was a good use of Jump Cuts which where cut in time with the music which made the video look quite professionally made and quite interesting to watch.
The location used were well thought of and really fit in with the genre of song.
The camera movement throughout the video was steady and they where a good variety of shots from different angles and shot types.
There was a good use of the fade shot transition over most of the jump cuts and an appriopiate use at the end to signal the end of the song.
Overall the cuts where too the music and the video was made really well

Even Better If:
Some of the performance shots were too dark and you could barely see the guys face this was probably supposed to be conventional but some areas jjust seemed to dark to me.

What i've learnt from this video:
If I use jump cuts in my video I may take into account the way they utalised them in this video because I thought it looked really good.
The use of shot transitions in this video made it look really cool and professional which is something I want to aim my video to be so will use this video as some sort of inspiratiobn for mine.

 Aaron

What Went Well:
The video used a variety of shots such as close-ups and mid-shots .
The video utalises a good use of fade effects in the shot changes which is really good .
The video cuts well with the music which is something crucial in music videos.
The person thought well about the actor used and made sure she fits into the genre of music as she looks similar to the original artist.

Even Better If:
After a while the shots mostly at one location became a bit tedious to watch and if they used several more locatiions it ma have been etter in my opinion
Near the end of the video the camera pans and we can see the edge of the white screen they use which was something they could hav e cut outt or used another shot as it's quite noticeable but as it only happened once it shouldn't have effected there grade too much.

What i've learnt from this video:
I've learnt that a selection of different locations will help the video look more interesting and that using a variety of shots from the saem location looks really well which will be something to keep in mind when I do my music video.

Jack and Subhan

What Went Well:
I quite like the way they used the extreme close-up of the piano because I thought that it fit well the the genre and gave for a really interesting shot.
They utalised a good use pf shot transtions betwenn some of the shots which made the video look a lot better.
They seemed to have thought out the majority of narrative shots really well like the location and theme as it fit in with the song.

Even Better If:
The video would have looked better if the performer made more of an effort as it was clear that he wasn't really trying or looked really unenthuasiatic which sort of  ruined the video.
The mise en scene of the performance shots were not really well thought out which let the video down a bit.
Some narrative shots such as the one where the guy jumped from the car had no relevance to the rest of the video and sort of didn't make much sense to me.
I also thought the video would have looked better if the performer wasn't delibratly trying to look into the camera so much the direct looks made the video look less professional.

What i've learnt from this video:
I've learnt that a well thought out narrative looks really well if it's integrate into the song properly and makes sense tto the song which will be something to keep in mind for my video.
I quite liked the use of the extrem close-ups of the piano as I thought it made for an interesting shot and is something I really want to add into my video maybe not of a piano but some other form of instruement
i've also seen how important the performer is and how it looks really bad if they don't put the effort in as it doesn't look thast great which will be something I will definatly have to think about in my video to find a performer who is really into it.
