Initial Screening and Feedback
For the initial screening the narrative shots hadn't been taken but this is some of the rough responses I got about it so far.
What Went Well:
The performers look fitted into the song.
Variety of shot types and angles made the video flow better.
Cuts well to the music.
Lip syncing is done well
Pacing is good.
Improvements:
One of the shots is out of focus.
The ending is a bit strange the way it cuts to the other location and back again.
Possible speed up the edits in the chorus where it gets a bit faster.
Lighting is a bit of an issue where t goes from dark to light.
Not visually exciting.
From these I will try tailor my final video around some of these ideas as I want my video to be suitable for the target audience.

Changes made along the way
-I changed the narrative slightly from my original ideas to try make the idea simpler and to plan it out more so to get across my idea the the main person the songs about the 'lonely girl' to look like a horrible person and is a toxic friend by making it seem like the friendship in the song means nothing to her. I have done this because of my analysis of the lyrics in which it makes it seem like the girl is a liar and someone people don't want to be friends with.
-This was my original timeline with the original narrative ideas which i later changed and made it a more simpler and easier to follow narrative.
-I originally just looked at locations that fit in with the genre but didn't think about what each location could be used for.
Magazine Advert Initial Ideas
-My first three sketches for my magazine advert each consits of the same colour scheme blue and white.
-I'm planning to create these in photoshop or paintshop pro if I decide to create these over the christmas holidays which will most likely happen.
-I'm planning to use the same image in each of the idea just in different angles or postioned but it's mostly where the writing is or the postion that changes in these sketches.

Digipak Initial Ideas
-My original two Ideas for the digipak with a description of the color and positions of where i want things I have chose a basic template for the digipak although I will most likely end up changing this when I plan it out in Photoshop.
-I made my design quite unconventional by wanting to have an actual photograph on the front cover to stick with conventions however I want to either heavily edit the photo to look like a sketch or I will draw out an image instead which will be based off the photograph.

Song Lyrics Analysis
My analysis of the lyrics to the song Lonely Girl by Tonight Alive this gave me an understanding of the song which will help me when I plan as my original plan was to make the girl the main focus because her friends had left her and now looking into the lyrics the girl is to blame for being lonely which is something i'll keep in mind as to whether I want to use the intended meaning or my own meaning I've found to the lyrics.
Story Board
-A basic storyboard for the music video containing the main images and the caption of what is happening in each shot and any effect I hope to use.
-This incoperates the timeline I made and making it into a visual reference which is eaier to get across my idea.
Editing Plan
Photoshop:
Color Adjustments-
Whilst doing the magazine advert and the digipak I may want to edit the coloring slightly to make it a darker or lighter color I can do this by editing the color balance and using the quick selection tool to only color the part I want.
I also may want to change some of the images into black and white which can be done easily by going tinto adjustments and using the black and white filter this again can be used in a certain area by using the quick selection tool.
Basic Photo Editing-
It might also be a good idea to improve the quality of the photo by using the auto contrast and auto colouring tools to see if it makes the image any better. This can also be done manually if I want an image to be darker by changing the contrast.
Text-
I can edit the text by adding drop shadows and changing the colour overlays to create a sort of gradiented colour scheme. I also want to try find a way to have a sort of outline around the text in a different colour but may have to fiddle about with Photoshop a bit more to do this.
Premier Pro-
Is the editing software I will use to create and edit the music video the effects and cuts I hope to achieve in this is;
Colour Adjustments-
I want to have part of the video in black and white and this is something I will do in the editing software on the of chance that I change my mind and want the colours to be normal.
Overlays-
I want to have several clips overlap each other in a faded way I don't currently know how to do this but I will have to find out because I really want to have this in my music video especially in the argument scene to make the narrative clearer.
Slow Motion-
To make something into slow motion you just have to change the speed of the clip which is something I know how to do from last year so it will make it easier when I want some of the clips in slow motion.

Camera Movement
-I will take the videos again when I'm filming as these were just footage of the locations with some movements like pans in there. I will take them again to show all the movements as it will be easier to do with a proper camera and a tripod.
Pans
Zooming in and probably out( or just moving the camera closer)
Tilts, down and up
- I probably won't be using many more camera movements than these due to me changing the angle of the shots and using cuts to change between angles rather than using proper filming movements as in the genre i'm looking at the arn't that many camera movements in the performance shots
-The narrative shots will probably use these movements more and will most likely use the tracking shot as well but will most likely just use these shots.
Props List
-These are some spot lights I can borrow which will help with the performance shots if I want to control the lighting.
-These lights however will have to stay at locations inside or near a house to be able to plug the lights into electricity which is why the performance shot at the side of the house would be an ideal location to use these lights if needed.
-This will help with making the performance shots look more professional and look better.
-The microphone only has the a guitar hero logo which will need to be kept out of shot luckily this logo is only on one side so shoulf be easy to hide.
-This is just a piece of grey fabric which can be used to cover things in a shot in which I only want to see ceratin things.
-Or it can be used to pin up and use as a sort of
plain background for any performance shots.
-The last prop which I havn't got a photo of yet as i'm yet to take the picture is the photo of the two girls in which the narrative is sort of based around, I have the use of glossy photograph paper to make the prop look that mushc more realistic and professional.

Costume Planning

Having a look at some clothes I owned which corresponded with my original idea I came up with several stlye all fairly similar but diffeing slightly;
Another idea I had was to wear a sort of beanie hat but this didn't look as good as I wanted it to but is there as an option if I feel like I need to make the genre clearer. The other Idea I had was just to wear a plain black vest top but this didn't look nearly as good as using a desinged one did.
The second idea I had was to move away from the shirt effect and go down a completly different route but looking at the pictures now I think I will definatly go for the shirt look.

The other costume choice I had to make was shoes as I may use long shots and I want the costume to look perfect so I found a couple of pairs of converse style shoes. I will most likely use the plain black ones on the left as they look better in genral as they're not as battered.

Location Initial Ideas
I want to go for a more quiet location which is fairly appriopiate for the genre .
The first location I found was an alleyway with a rounded wall at the end I thought this might be a cool idea as it's quit quiet and could look good.
In this genre when artists have a wall background it usually contains a lot of graffitti which this wall doesn't so may be a bit unconventional in that sense.
So I looked at this location as you could set up a good shot with a nice depth of field and won't drag too much attention from the peerformer.
The rusted railings also look quite cool and seem to be quite conventional so this may be a location I use.
Costume Initial Planning
Lookingc at female singers in this genre I came up with this sort of idea, it came from looking at Jenna McDougall the lead singer of Tonight Alive as she always has a more casual costume, which I have dervided to a plaid/checkered long sleeve shirt on top of a black tank top or a band t-shirt as it shows the sort of genre for the rest of the costume I chose to use skinny jeans preferably black as a lot of both male and female performers use them and also some converse styled shoes to fit in with the apparent trend of convereses in this genre.
For the make-up of the performer I chose some fairly basic eye maake-up dark eye-shadow, mascara and eye liner as females in this genre only really pay attention to thier eye make up and can be fairly light to very heavy, i'm choosing to go for the lighter side.

Moodboard of ideas
I created a moodboard of inital ideas I had about things like location, costume and the narrative I want to use.

Research into adverts- Task 15
What i've learnt from this
I've seen some conventional and unconventional magazine adverts which ahs given me some inspiration for when I start making mine.
I've learnt some things that I will have to include in my magazione advert such as the text used is all pretty simiaalr and is always center and bold and is usually either white or a colour from the advert colour scheme.
Some other things to take into account will be whetheri decide to go from a simple layout of everything centered down the middle or go for a more artisitc approach suchas A Day To Remembers advert

Research into digipaks- Task 14
I looked at a range of digipaks and chose some more unconventional digipaks to show how varied the digipaks of this genre are but picked out the main conventions which I will base my digipak off of.
What I've learnt:
From looking at different digipaks I have grasped a thorough understanding of the different conventions there are in this genre and how different digipaks can be from others in the same genre.
I started thinking of ideas for my digipak and how I could make it conventional in some senses such as having big, bold text and unconventional in other areas such as having photos on the main covers.
I also learnt that a lot of digipaks have a specific color scheme containing usually around three color which is something i'll have to remember when doing my digipak as to keep to convention as much as possible.

Tracking an artist/band- Task 13
Tracking Avril Lavigne across her career there is a clear change in her musical style from more punk music to more pop-punk and more alternative rock not only that but her own personal style has changed and she moved away from a punk look she had to begin with to a more feminine rocker look.
What I've Learnt:
Through doing this i have not only learnt how specifically Avril Lavigne has changed over her albums and through the years but also gave me an insight on how artists change over time to incorporate new ideas or new genre's to try achieve and try to appease a bigger audience.
I have also seen a variety of styles that Avril has done which gives some inspiration for the costume aspect of my music video, which always helps.
I've also seen a variety of her videos which gives me several ideas for themes and settings, such as a heart break theme which was what I was aiming for anyway and has given me several ideas of how I may go about doing a music video around that theme.

Music Channels- Task 12
What I have Learnt;
I have learnt how the music video industry has changed over the years but all concepts of modern music videos are based off the popularity of the first MTV channel and tjhat without that music videos would be no where near as poplualr as they are today.
I have also leant how each genre is linked to one or two specific channels so to keep in mind the target audience and to keep them entertained easier.
When I do my music video it may be good to look at some videos that feature quite oftne on the Kerrang! chanel as that's the channel that hold the Alternative Rock genre and to look at what the audience enjoy.

Audience Research- Task 11
I created a generic survey just to get an idea for the sort of people could reach and what sort of shots they like just so I could get something useful from the survey, I then deleted several questions such as what's your age and gender once I got an idea of my target audience and who I was reaching and focused then on understanding what they like from music videos.
I looked at the audiences responses I got from the first survey to come up with an example target audience there were two main targets, as i'm still undecided whether my target audience is going to male or female I did a voki for both and will take time to decide before I get to into the planning stage but currently i'm undecided who exactly it will be.
I then went and created a mood board showing the alternative rock genre and what the target audience may be like and what they like and listen to based off the survey responses and first hand information obtained by knowing a lot of alternative people and what they are into and what they listen to.
In general I learnt a lot about who my target audience will be and in the end whether I choose to go for a male or female audience won't effort the construction but will effect the response I get in the end. As both genders in this genre like similar things in music videos and are quite similar.

Analysis of previous students works- Task 10
1)www.fahminaali.blogspot.com
2)www.i.m.c/kayjianoran/kayjianoran
3)http://laraanisere.wix.com/media-a2-coursework-
What I've learnt from looking at other students work.
-I've learnt how important the research and planning side of things are and that the better mark you get in that section the easier it will make the construction.
-I saw a really good story board and animation on one of the other students work which was brilliant and I want to take inspiration from that when I do mine.
-It gave me an idea of the level my work will have to be to get a good grade and how much effort and work I have to put in.
-I quite liked how easy some of the navigation was on the blogs and websites and how it makes a difference for someone marking it.
-I quite liked the range of technology and presentation methods some of the other students used but I also saw how boring it gets if you repeat the same method over and over again and how much of a difference it makes to the marking if there is a range of technology used.

What Went Well:
There was a good use of Jump Cuts which where cut in time with the music which made the video look quite professionally made and quite interesting to watch.
The location used were well thought of and really fit in with the genre of song.
The camera movement throughout the video was steady and they where a good variety of shots from different angles and shot types.
There was a good use of the fade shot transition over most of the jump cuts and an appriopiate use at the end to signal the end of the song.
Overall the cuts where too the music and the video was made really well
Even Better If:
Some of the performance shots were too dark and you could barely see the guys face this was probably supposed to be conventional but some areas jjust seemed to dark to me.
What i've learnt from this video:
If I use jump cuts in my video I may take into account the way they utalised them in this video because I thought it looked really good.
The use of shot transitions in this video made it look really cool and professional which is something I want to aim my video to be so will use this video as some sort of inspiratiobn for mine.
Aaron
What Went Well:
The video used a variety of shots such as close-ups and mid-shots .
The video utalises a good use of fade effects in the shot changes which is really good .
The video cuts well with the music which is something crucial in music videos.
The person thought well about the actor used and made sure she fits into the genre of music as she looks similar to the original artist.
Even Better If:
After a while the shots mostly at one location became a bit tedious to watch and if they used several more locatiions it ma have been etter in my opinion
Near the end of the video the camera pans and we can see the edge of the white screen they use which was something they could hav e cut outt or used another shot as it's quite noticeable but as it only happened once it shouldn't have effected there grade too much.
What i've learnt from this video:
I've learnt that a selection of different locations will help the video look more interesting and that using a variety of shots from the saem location looks really well which will be something to keep in mind when I do my music video.
Jack and Subhan
What Went Well:
I quite like the way they used the extreme close-up of the piano because I thought that it fit well the the genre and gave for a really interesting shot.
They utalised a good use pf shot transtions betwenn some of the shots which made the video look a lot better.
They seemed to have thought out the majority of narrative shots really well like the location and theme as it fit in with the song.
Even Better If:
The video would have looked better if the performer made more of an effort as it was clear that he wasn't really trying or looked really unenthuasiatic which sort of ruined the video.
The mise en scene of the performance shots were not really well thought out which let the video down a bit.
Some narrative shots such as the one where the guy jumped from the car had no relevance to the rest of the video and sort of didn't make much sense to me.
I also thought the video would have looked better if the performer wasn't delibratly trying to look into the camera so much the direct looks made the video look less professional.
What i've learnt from this video:
I've learnt that a well thought out narrative looks really well if it's integrate into the song properly and makes sense tto the song which will be something to keep in mind for my video.
I quite liked the use of the extrem close-ups of the piano as I thought it made for an interesting shot and is something I really want to add into my video maybe not of a piano but some other form of instruement
i've also seen how important the performer is and how it looks really bad if they don't put the effort in as it doesn't look thast great which will be something I will definatly have to think about in my video to find a performer who is really into it.

Research into a genre- Task 7
What i've learnt:
I've learnt about how alternative rock came from and a look at some of the top bands in the genre nd how they differ so much from each other.
As I know many bands in this genre i't gives me a lot of ideas of what song I want to choose to do my music video on and also gives me a good look into what different videos in this genre look like which will help.

Research Into An Artist-Task 5
-What I've learnt from looking into a band.
- Some things I've learnt from looking into Mayday Parade is that not all music videos contain the band there are some exceptions which might be something to think about in the planning stage.
-A lot of their style consists around black and white.
-Most of their songs are more emotional and the music videos reflect on this as they tend to take on a more emotional and relatable style.

A detailed look into the shots lighting and placement of the band members in Tonight Alive's song some things I didn't or couldn't include was the face paced cutting in time to the music and the amount of short pans or tilt movements which where hard to spot.
By looking at a music video in this much detail I can start to understand how music videos are made and how the quick cut to a different shot can just be the same one to a slightly different placement or angle which will be something to keep in mind when constructing my music video.
Another thing I noted was the appearance of the singer Jenna compared to any other band member which is something I've noticed when looking at other music videos I just didn't release the frequency of the shots.
Something else was the really unclear and almost non appearing narrative which I took as the shots of Jenna in the cage which will be something else to keep in mind.

I chose to look at Mayday Parades song Kids In Love as it is a completely narrative based video following a group of kids on their tour around the U.S. From looking at a completely narrative based video compared to a mostly artist shot one from Tonight Alive I gained an understanding of how bands in the same genre can differ so much.
Most of the shots in this video were highly varied though there where a lot of two-shot, close ups, and extreme long shots, which will be something to keep in mind when I do my music video the variety of shots.
I also noted a wide use of pan and tracking shots in the video which will be something to keep in mind if I use any group or couple shots in my video the second being more likely because it would be good to include an example of a technique i've found in a music video as it shows convention.

Looking at A Day To Remember's Have Faith In Me which has a mixture of performance and narrative shot gives the rough idea of what a conventional music video in this genre looks like. I noticed that there are a lot more performance shots than of the narrative and that the narrative shots seem to appear in little blocks through out the song.
The performance shots consist mostly of the singer and of the guitarist, the bassist and the drummer don't appear nearly as often as these two.
I noticed again a large amount of extreme close ups of the instruments leading to a tilt up to a mid-shot or the other way round which will be something to keep in mind when I do my music video.
Something to do with the narrative that I noticed is that it becomes more unexplained as the video goes on that you think its going in one direction and it goes in a completely different one which is soemthing I may consider in when creating my music video.
